How to Adjust Kitchen Corner Cupboard Hinges

Corner cupboards can be a pain to adjust, but it's essential to do so to ensure they open and close properly. Misaligned hinges can cause the door to rub against the frame, making it difficult to open or close. They can also put stress on the hinges, causing them to break prematurely.

There are two types of corner cupboard hinges: overlay hinges and inset hinges.

  1. Overlay hinges are mounted on the outside of the door and frame. They are the most common type of hinge used on corner cupboards.
  2. Inset hinges are mounted on the inside of the door and frame. They are less common than overlay hinges, but they offer a more finished look.

No matter what type of hinge you have, the adjustment process is similar.

You will need the following tools:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Allen wrench
  • Measuring tape

Step 1: Open the door and locate the hinges

The hinges will be located on the inside of the door and frame. There will be two or three hinges per door.

Step 2: Loosen the screws that hold the hinges in place

Use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the screws that hold the hinges in place. Do not remove the screws completely.

Step 3: Adjust the hinges

There are three types of adjustments that can be made to corner cupboard hinges:

  1. Vertical adjustment: This adjustment moves the door up or down. To make a vertical adjustment, use a flat head screwdriver to turn the screw that is located at the top of the hinge. Turning the screw clockwise will move the door up, and turning it counterclockwise will move the door down.
  2. Horizontal adjustment: This adjustment moves the door left or right. To make a horizontal adjustment, use a Phillips head screwdriver to turn the screw that is located at the bottom of the hinge. Turning the screw clockwise will move the door to the right, and turning it counterclockwise will move the door to the left.
  3. Depth adjustment: This adjustment moves the door closer to or further away from the frame. To make a depth adjustment, use an Allen wrench to turn the screw that is located at the back of the hinge. Turning the screw clockwise will move the door closer to the frame, and turning it counterclockwise will move the door further away from the frame.

Step 4: Tighten the screws

Once you have made the necessary adjustments, tighten the screws that hold the hinges in place. Do not overtighten the screws, as this can damage the hinges.

Step 5: Test the door

Open and close the door to test the adjustments. If the door still does not open and close properly, repeat steps 2-4 until the door is aligned correctly.

Tips:

  • Be patient when adjusting corner cupboard hinges. It may take some time to get the door aligned correctly.
  • If you are not comfortable making the adjustments yourself, you can contact a professional cabinet maker or handyman.
  • Regularly check and adjust your corner cupboard hinges to ensure they are working properly.
