How to Replace a Broken Kitchen Cabinet Drawer

A broken kitchen cabinet drawer can be a major inconvenience, especially if it's one of the drawers you use the most. But don't worry, replacing a broken drawer is a relatively easy task that you can do yourself with a few simple tools and materials.

Materials you'll need:

  • New drawer
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill
  • Clamps
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper
  • Paint or stain (optional)

Steps:

1. Remove the old drawer:

Start by removing the old drawer from the cabinet. To do this, simply open the drawer and locate the screws that are holding it in place. Remove the screws and then pull the drawer straight out of the cabinet.

2. Prepare the new drawer:

Next, you need to prepare the new drawer for installation. If the new drawer is not already assembled, you will need to do so now. Once the drawer is assembled, sand any rough edges and apply a coat of paint or stain if desired.

3. Install the drawer slides:

The next step is to install the drawer slides on the new drawer. Drawer slides are what allow the drawer to open and close smoothly. To install the drawer slides, simply line them up with the holes on the sides of the drawer and screw them into place.

4. Attach the drawer to the cabinet:

Now you can attach the new drawer to the cabinet. To do this, simply line up the drawer slides with the holes on the sides of the cabinet and slide the drawer into place.

5. Secure the drawer:

Once the drawer is in place, you need to secure it. To do this, simply screw the screws back into place through the holes on the sides of the drawer.

6. Test the drawer:

Once the drawer is secured, open and close it a few times to make sure that it is working properly. If the drawer is not opening or closing smoothly, you may need to adjust the drawer slides.

Tips:
  • If the old drawer is damaged beyond repair, you may need to replace the entire cabinet.
  • Be sure to measure the old drawer before purchasing a new one to ensure that it is the correct size.
  • If you are not comfortable replacing the drawer yourself, you can hire a professional to do it for you.
